Will my child really learn Spanish?

Yes!  We teach Spanish the same way you taught your child to speak English – normal daily activities, narration and discussion, and lots of repetition.  We never say to a child, “You are here to learn Spanish.”  Instead we say (in Spanish), “Let’s have fun!  Let’s read this book.  What does the doggy say?  Let’s sing a song – here’s how it goes.  Jump up and clap your hands!  Touch your head in this part, now touch your knees.  Time to clean up.  Time for snack.  Let’s pray.”  And so forth.  Just like you do in English at home.

As with your child in her first couple of years of English absorption, 2K kids are learning to understand the language spoken to them, and building the foundation to speak.  Over time, they begin to speak it naturally, but it doesn’t all happen at once, of course.

Will my child get bored if he/she attends the Spanish Immersion program two days per week?

Absolutely not.  About 50% of our students attend the Spanish Immersion program two days per week.  The second day provides positive reinforcement and practice in the language.  Think about when your child watches a video a second time; he or she always gets something new from it.  (But our teachers are not videos, and they offer lots new each day!)    Students attending a second day per week are offered additional art projects.

Where are the program guidelines for the Spanish Immersion program at the Learning Center?

We follow the same rules and guidelines as the MPPC Learning Center.  They are posted here for your convenience.

Does the Spanish Immersion program follow the same calendar as the Learning Center?

Yes.  We follow the same school calendar as the Learning Center, which is posted here for convenience.  We also follow the same rules and regulations.

Is Bridges Language School part of the Learning Center?

We are a separate organization.  We complement the Learning Center program by providing the Spanish Immersion program, its curriculum, teachers, and materials.  We also offer other programs to other organizations.

Why should my preschool student be in a language immersion class?

Preschool is about having fun.  It doesn’t matter what language one uses, as long as the class is engaging.  Through interesting and fun activities, the children are absorbing the sounds, structure, mannerisms and body language of native speakers.  Pathways are very easily formed in their brains at this age, and they absorb the language in its entirety, like sponges.  They learn to speak like their teachers.  This also becomes tucked away in their brains as the foundation for continued, more formal instruction, as school progresses.

They are learning about another culture, not just another language, and this develops open-mindedness.

Perhaps just as importantly, studies show that children who are exposed to a second language early in life develop stronger critical-thinking skills, creativity, and flexible thinking skills.  These apply to every facet of their life and learning, not just foreign language learning.

What do you do in the Spanish Immersion class?

We offer a normal preschool program, including circle-time, reading, art, play, and other activities, all using Spanish as the tool to have fun.  The children enjoy a normal preschool morning, having fun without even being aware that Spanish is the language being used.  They pick it up naturally.

What is the difference between the Spanish hour the Learning Center offers, and your Spanish Immersion program?

The Spanish Immersion program is a full morning of class (3 hours or 4 hours, depending on the class) conducted entirely in Spanish, by two teachers who are native speakers.

Can my child attend the Spanish Immersion program more than one day per week?

Yes.  Your child can attend all classes in their age-group.  For example, a 3K aged child can attend both the Tuesday and Thursday class, assuming there is space.

Does my child have to attend the Learning Center in order to attend the Spanish Immersion program?

No.  We have students who only attend the Spanish Immersion program, as well as students who attend both programs.
